Headington Rye Year 10 Students Support Alongside Africa
We’re delighted to share that the Year 10 students at Headington Rye, Oxford, have chosen Alongside Africa as their designated charity. We feel truly honoured by their support and look forward to building a lasting and meaningful partnership with the school community.

The girls have chosen to support our Amasiko Halfway House programme—a vital initiative that gives young women, who’ve had to leave formal education, the chance to learn a skill and change the course of their futures.
Earlier this term, we were invited to give a presentation to Year 10 to share more about our work in Kabale, Uganda, and the impact of the Amasiko programme. The students are now working towards raising funds to support Doreen, a young woman who hopes to attend the six-month residential tailoring course at the Halfway House.
This course is offered free of charge to those who meet the criteria and provides not only vocational training but the opportunity to become self-sufficient and support their families. Without this support, many young women—like Doreen (see story below)—would be left to earn a meagre living through casual labour, often working in other people’s gardens, trapped in a cycle of poverty.
To help raise funds, the students have created a wonderful digital cookbook, filled with their favourite family recipes. If you’d like a copy, we kindly ask for a donation of £7 or more.
Please complete the form below to make your donation. A PDF copy of the cookbook will be emailed to you within 24 hours. If you do not receive it, kindly check your spam folder or contact us directly at mtitterton@alongsideafrica.org.
One of the girls whom the Year 10s would like to support during her course is Doreen.

If you’d like to help make this possible, please consider purchasing our digital cookbook – every penny raised will go directly towards funding Doreen’s place on the course. Your support means the world.
