Graeme Naish Memorial School is one of our partners in Uganda that several of our sponsored children attend. There is a nursery and primary school based in the rural village of Kiriba on the edge of the Bwindi forest. Although the area is renowned for gorilla trekking the reality is that the area is very poor with little or no access to resources.
Alongside Africa is working in partnership with the school PTA to build a school on land owned by Alongside Africa Uganda and leased to the school for a peppercorn rent. Work has started on building the new classrooms at the school on the foundations that have already been laid down by the community.
The plan was for the school to move from old church premises next January, by which time the classrooms will have been completed, however a bad storm recently hit the area which ripped the roofs off of the church buildings that were being used as classrooms. As a result the plans for completing the new classrooms have had to be accelerated and the process of purchasing the roofing material has started. Alongside Africa is also helping to repair the damaged church buildings.
We need more sponsors for children at the Graeme Naish School and aim to raise funds to purchase a brick making machine for this school, similar to the Amazing Love School’s one, so that they can build permanent structures for the school and thereafter rent out the machine to provide a small income (even if it is only for some food to help feed the pupils).
If you can sponsor a child, for just £19 a month please complete our online sponsorship form, or if you can help us raise the £2,000 to buy a brick making machine and start the building of a permanent structure you can donate directly through our website or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
