Here is good news from the Amasiko Street Children team in Uganda, after having to contend with the devastating news of Peter whom was orphaned this week. We found Amelie (not her real name) a home with a foster carer and she is now off the street for good.
Her foster carer, Wendy (not her real name) is a newly registered guardian with Alongside Africa Uganda. Yesterday, Amasiko staff and Amelie ‘s mother were pleased to escort Amelie, 9 years old to her new home in the Kabale District.
Wendy the new foster carer was so happy for the opportunity, she will now take responsibility as the guardian of Amelie. The benefits that come with being a carer were also cherished so much by her. She thanked us for entrusting Amelie with her. Wendy promised to look after Amelie as her own daughter.
While the team were leaving, she also donated a bundle of sugarcanes, which we shared among the Amasiko street children at the drop-in centre.
We are so happy that Amelie graduated from the Amasiko Street Children project and moved on to a permanent home. Our support staff will visit her again very soon to catch up with her and get an update on how she’s been adapting to her new home.
