Meet Alongside Africa’s team in Kabale

Whilst the Alongside Africa UK team often get the headlines through our high profile trips to Uganda it is undoubtedly the team on the ground in Kabale who are doing the work and deserve recognition. With the launching of Amasiko the team has grown and we’d like to introduce them to you here. They are, clockwise from top left:

Tickets are £25.95 per person – for every ticket sold the London Beach Hotel will donate the same amount to Alongside Africa, so not only do you get a first class meal you will be supporting a great cause at the same time

Emergency supplies received

Prim Nyirangabaza, centre, one of our sponsored children, recently suffered a fire which gutted her family’s household. Prim and her family are Batwa, a tribe of pygmies that are the most disadvantaged community in the region. Their houses are usually made of mud and sticks with reed roofs. The open fires inside such structures make them particularly liable to such tragic accidents and we can only be grateful that no lives were lost.

Thanks to fast communication and having a good team on the ground we were able to react quickly and help by purchasing and delivering some urgently needed supplies including a set of cooking pots, 2 blankets and material for traditional clothing.

Women’s groups help expand our beaded jewellery range

We are very proud of the women’s groups who make our wonderful woven baskets who have shown a great eagerness to be trained in making the paper beads for necklaces, bracelets and earrings that we sell, allowing us to increase the volume and range.

We have provided funding for this training and the women are extremely happy and enthusiastic to be working with us. They are looking to produce the beads for their local markets as well as to sell to us.
