The Kishaki Tukwatanise group comprises thirty member households.
Recently, the group acquired a financial loan of Shs. 1m (£250) through Alongside Africa’s Obumwe Microfinance scheme.
The group initially invested the funds in growing potatoes. After their modest harvest the group sold their produce and re-invested part of the proceeds in acquiring livestock, which will spread out among all the constituent households. It is envisaged that the livestock will gradually go a long way in boosting the agricultural productivity (a source of animal manure), food security, and ultimately the household incomes and welfare.
Here is a picture of group members receiving the first batch of livestock recently.
You can help us grow this valuable scheme by adding to the Obumwe fund – a donation of £250 will allow 2 loans to be made each year.
