The Barantma Tutunguke Backara Group received a one million shilling (£250) Obumwe loan to which they were able to raise half as much again of their own capital. After investing their money in an agricultural project and repaying their loan they realised a cash profit of just over one million shillings and had sufficient seed potatoes in stock for a new harvest. That really is opportunities, not aid.
Obumwe continues to have a 100% repayment success rate, which is an impressive track record for an African microfinance scheme and is testament to the nature of the relationship that we have with the women’s groups in the region and the work of the team on the ground.
We were delighted to recently receive donations from generous individual donors that have enabled us to increase the value of the Obumwe loan pot by a third. If you want to help this project grow you can contribute at https://www.justgiving.com/Obumwe or contact us directly.
